Postcard From the Voyaging Thomasina July 05
GALICIA – and, guess what? - the weather here is sunny. Having lived a good deal of my life in Scotland, this still comes as a shock.
Sailed round from Coruna to Ria de Muros, just around from Cape Finisterre, where I am at present, in a marina at Portosin, making the most of its internet access.
Thomasina’s engine has been quite sick. I think some seaweed blocked the water intake when running the engine at night and caused it to overheat so I had to order a new cylinder head from the UK. I have just fitted this and I am now nearly ready to carry on down the coast to Bayona and then across to Madeira. |

Galicia is a joy - great people, great music and great scenery. It’s a kind of undiscovered Spain and long may it remain so. Traditions are strong here, English rarely spoken and the people are hospitable.
I went through to Santiago de Compostella the other day, a wonderful place
full of history and fantastic buildings. On the way there you have to take a bus to Noia, pronounced Noya. I mention this because, catching the bus with Alan Douthwaite who was on his way to meet his wife in Madrid (ah! these jet-setting Highland Perthshire builders), I asked for the tickets: “Dos para Noya,” and thought: “I’ve already got that, and here you can catch a bus to it”.
Had a fantastic sail down and around Cape Finisterre. Northerly F6 then 7, quite big seas, a surfing Thomasina and sun - it just doesn´t get any better.
